MATTHEW 1:16, 18-21. 24a
JOSEPH, A RIGHTEOUS MAN.
Saint Joseph was characterized by his silence…a respectful silence at the service of listening. This silence helps us to look inwards to meditate and know God’s will; it teaches us to be great from smallness like Mary (charity), invites us to trust in the Creator, even if things seem to go against us (faith), and induces us to set out on the path supported by the strength of hope.
Saint Joseph reminds us that all those who are apparently hidden or in “second line” have an unparalleled role in the history of salvation. A word of recognition and gratitude is addressed to all of them.
Joseph, the Father of Tenderness, teaches us that a man guided by God does not make mistakes. On the journey of faith, TENDERNESS is fundamental for Joseph in his dealings with Mary and Jesus. He did not live to please the world but God. What can I learn from St. Joseph?
