“Come, you who are blessed by my Father… for I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty… I was passing through…” (Mt. 25:31-46)
We will be judged in love… we will be judged in love… That should resonate with us every day of our lives. In this we are all equal. There is no religion, culture, or social status here. We’re all in line, and it’s our turn to give an account, sooner or later.
He won’t ask us how many and what degrees we obtained. He won’t ask us how many Masses, processions, we went to. In fact, we will be reminded of that phrase spoken in Saint Luke: “To whom much is given, much will be required; and to whom much is entrusted, much more will be required,” because in one way or another we have been chosen by His love for something great, and many times we disregard that gift of God.
In this reading we have the basic examination of conscience.
Before taking an exam, one asks oneself: What will they ask?
Here it tells us what we will be evaluated on at the end of our time…By isolated acts, which, added together, make up an attitude of love. Just as the hour is made up of a succession of minutes and these of seconds, so, too, is our life made up of a succession of acts that constitute a person who loves, who gives, who gives of oneself.
