“The crowd that heard him wondered in amazement, ‘Where does he get all that? What wisdom is this which is given to him?” Mark 6:1-6
The exercise of listening is liberating, because both the speaker and the listener are liberated. The crowd that listened to Jesus asked many questions, we could add: Who is this who, when He speaks, frees us from our personal worries, from our daily demons, from what prevents us from sleeping and resting? People who listened to Jesus practiced the art of listening, an art that allows us to stop listening to ourselves and the disturbing voices that murmur within us. When people listened to Jesus, they understood that life could be seen in a different way, and they freed themselves from preconceived schemes that robbed them of the joy of living. The people who listened to him came back refreshed, with a new face, they felt that they were no longer exactly the same. Let us ask the Lord for the grace to know how to listen to him and to allow him to free our inner selves through his Word.
