OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL.
“I am meek and humble of heart” Matthew 11:28-30.
Today’s Gospel is the continuation of that beautiful prayer of yesterday. Jesus, after praying in gratitude to God for revealing the mysteries of the faith to the simple people; He continues to think about them, about the burdens they have to bear. Jesus makes three calls to them:
1. “Come to me, you who are weary and burdened”: The encounter with Jesus is immediate relief. “I will relieve them.” To free oneself from burdens in order to grasp the joy of salvation.
2. “Bear my yoke, for it is bearable, and my burden is light.” Abandoning the yoke of the powerful and carrying that of Jesus makes life more bearable. Jesus demands the essential: the love that liberates and creates life.
3. “Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.” Jesus makes life simpler and simpler. It does not oppress; it helps to live in a more dignified and humane way. It is a “rest” to encounter Him.
