Today’s passage presents us with one of Jesus’ many prayers. “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and have revealed them to the simple people!” This is God’s way, to reveal his mysteries and his love, to choose the simple, who are wholeheartedly disposed to receive the generous love of the Father in Jesus. “For the wise and understanding understand nothing.” They have their own learned vision of God and religion. How often they boldly and baselessly question the truths of the faith; they think they know everything; their closed vision and hardened heart prevent them from opening themselves to the revelation of the Father through his Son. Let us value humility and simplicity in presenting to the little ones the love of God that becomes hope.
