“Follow me.” Jn. 21:20-25
In this journey with Jesus, each one has his or her call, his or her mission, his or her way of following him. “You, follow me.” The important thing is to listen to him and get going. Peter is curious about John’s fate, for he has seen him so close to Jesus that perhaps he thinks that the Master will have something better in store for John. But Jesus edifies enlightens him: John is one and has his calling, “You are Peter, and upon you I will build my Church,” even though you have failed and your faith is in the process of maturing. One will be John’s way, another Peter’s, one will be yours, and another will be mine. Yesterday we spoke heart to heart with Jesus. Today, we hear his very personal and unique call for each of us. Let us ask him for the grace to listen to him and to respond to him as He wishes.
