“I don’t condemn you either. Go, and from now on sin no more.” Jn. 8:1-11

A scene full of tension, judgment, pain and mercy. A woman is publicly exposed, reduced to her sin, while those who accuse her feel righteous and sure of themselves.  Jesus does not deny sin, but He changes the focus: “Whoever is without sin, let him cast the first stone.” With this phrase, He dismantles hypocrisy and forces everyone to look inside. One by one they are withdrawing.  Jesus and the woman are left alone and then the heart of the gospel appears: “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and sin no more.” Mercy and truth walk together. God does not humiliate but lifts up; He does not lock in the past; He opens up a new future. From where do we look at others: from the stone or from compassion?
