“Many people came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the deaf-mutes, and many others; they laid them at his feet, and He healed them.” Matthew 15, 29-37 Saint Francis Xavier
In the passage of the multiplication of the loaves, let us focus our attention on the people who approach Jesus; sick people whom He welcomes, cares for, heals and saves. Furthermore, they have not had anything to eat for three days, Jesus perceives this and acts. The disciples, upon seeing the magnitude of the need, feel overwhelmed and express their bewilderment. However, Jesus does not expect great resources but relies on the little they have. And it is precisely from that scarcity that they learn to share, distribute and multiply until the multitude is satisfied and there are even leftovers. And how do we multiply what we have? How do we help others in this condition? Who are those who come to us, the small and sick of this world?
