“My house is a house of prayer.” Lk. 19:45-48
Jesus enters the temple of Jerusalem, questions the merchants and takes them out of there because they have desecrated the place. He tells them: “My house is a house of prayer and you have turned it into a den of robbers”. For Jesus, the temple is important as a space for community encounter with the God of life. The other thing He questions is the marginalization, mistreatment, and abuse committed against the people of the temple. What is serious is the commercialization of faith. He denounces a corrupt religious system, which hinders the encounter with God, Who is compassionate and liberator of situations of oppression. Let us review the coherence of our faith, if we act compassionately in favor of the humble and the excluded.
