“Have you understood all this?”  (Matthew 13:47-52) (II Timothy 3:14-17)

Today’s readings encourage us to listen, to prepare our hearts with humility to accept the Word and let it guide us. Saint Jerome, in his prologue to the book of the prophet Isaiah, wrote: “If, as the Apostle Paul says, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God, and he who does not know the Scriptures does not know the power of God or his wisdom, it follows that to be ignorant of the Scriptures is to be ignorant of Christ (II Timothy 3:11, Verses 14-17). Therefore, I want to imitate the father of a house who brings out of the ark the new and the old, and the bride who says in the Song of Songs, ‘I have saved for you, my beloved, the new and the old’.

And so, I will expound the book of Isaiah, showing in it not only the prophet, but also the evangelist and apostle. Jesus says to us: ‘Have you understood all this?’”

Let us ask the Spirit for his light to enter into the Word of each day.
