“Who do you say that I am?” Lk. 9:18-22

After a moment of prayer alone, Jesus asks his disciples the fundamental question of faith. He is not interested in what public opinion or crowds say, but in the personal and intimate response of those who walk with him. Peter answers accurately: “You are the Messiah of God.” This confession commits us to also take up the way of the cross that Jesus then announces. What would we answer from the depths of our hearts if Jesus asked us that same question now? Our faith needs to be constantly renewed. Let us ask him to help us discover how to recognize him in our daily lives.
