“The Twelve Apostles and some women who had been healed were with him…” Lk. 8:1-3
Luke gives us a beautiful and inclusive image of the community that followed Jesus: there were not only the apostles, but also women like Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Susanna, who served with their goods and actively participated in the mission. Jesus breaks down the cultural barriers of his time, dignifying the role of women and showing that the Kingdom of God is built with the collaboration and harmony of all. What attitudes of exclusion or machismo do we continue to reproduce in our daily relationships? We are all called equally to spread his message. Let us ask him to help us discover how to value more the invisible service of those around us. Let us try to build communities of true equality and respect.
