“Her many sins are forgiven, because she has loved much.” Lk. 7:36-50

In the house of Simon the Pharisee, a sinful woman approaches Jesus, bathes his feet with her tears and anoints them with perfume. While Simon coldly judges the scene, Jesus looks at the woman’s torn and repentant heart and recognizes in her gestures an immense love that makes her worthy of forgiveness. She who has loved much is forgiven much. Are our internal judgments similar to those of Simon, which do not allow us to see the transformation of the other? Jesus’ merciful gaze does not condemn us but restores us. Let us ask him to help us discover how to express our gratitude for his infinite forgiveness and develop the ability to forgive, to love without labeling others.
