“Blessed are those who fear the Lord.” Psalm 127:1-2.4-5

Today’s Gospel puts us before those “woes” of Jesus, so direct, so uncomfortable. The scribes and Pharisees looked impeccable on the outside, but Jesus compares them to whitewashed tombs: beautiful to look at, empty on the inside. The Psalm, on the other hand, opens a different door for us: “Blessed are those who fear the Lord.” Not a shrinking fear, but that deep trust that comes from knowing that He knows us and loves us just as we are. Those who live in this way, with an ordered heart, find peace even in the simple, even in the fatigue of each day. Let us ask Him that our inner and outer life will always be one.
