FEAST OF SAINT JOSEPH THE WORKER
“Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?” Mt. 13:54-58
Jesus returns to his village, teaches in the synagogue, but leaves with disappointment in his heart. Those neighbors, relatives and acquaintances have heard about him, they already know of his miraculous signs in other places, and they do not believe. “How is it possible that the son of the carpenter and Mary, the neighbor we meet daily at in our surroundings, has so much wisdom in his words?” They have been left with the image of the boy they saw growing up among them, and they are unable to discover the gift that God has sent in Him. Doesn’t it often happen to us that our prejudices against others close our eyes to see beyond, and prevents us from discovering in them a brother, a child of the God we seek, a living presence of Jesus identified with the most meek and humble?
