“Jesus made his way among them and went on his way.” Lk. 4:24-30

Jesus is rejected by his own people. Those who have known him forever are unable to recognize in him the one sent by God. Closeness becomes an obstacle, and familiarity becomes closure: “No prophet is accepted in his homeland.” Jesus reminds us that God acts freely and that his grace is not limited to a group, a tradition or a religious security. The reaction is strong: they go from admiring Jesus to wanting to eliminate him. The fear of losing privileges and certainties can harden the heart and close the ears to the voice of God. Do we accept that God acts outside of our schemes? Jesus “passed through their midst and went away.” God does not impose himself; He continues on his way waiting for open hearts. True faith is born of the humility of letting ourselves be surprised by Him.
