“Give, and it will be given to you.” Lk. 6:36-38

Today’s Gospel places us on the flatland of life, in which we are given a clear call: “Be merciful”. This call to be merciful implies a firm decision to love, even when the other person fails. It is the way God looks at us: not from judgment, but from the compassion that lifts up and gives a new opportunity. “Forgive and you will be forgiven.” Generous forgiveness opens abundant paths of reconciliation. For this reason, Jesus does not propose a logic of loss, but of abundance. When we are merciful and give understanding, time, forgiveness, and kindness, we do not impoverish ourselves, but we become humanized and more like God. Am I merciful on the plain of my life where I share with others their virtues and defects, their values and their vices?
