“The word that comes out of my mouth does not return to me empty.” Mk. 4:1-20

Today we are offered to pray a parable well known and easy to understand, if the peasant world is familiar to us. To go to his deeper message, Jesus explains that the seed is the word. In the ancient East, the word was a force that transformed reality. Let us remember Isaiah: “Just as snow drenches the earth and makes it fruitful; gives seed to the farmer and bread to those who eat, so will be the word that proceeds from my mouth; it will not return to me empty” (Is 55:10-11). That is, the word welcomed with openness becomes an explanation of one’s own life. Let’s read the parable as if we were the ground and examine when and why the Word of God that we hear does or does not transform our lives.
