Who will trust them with what is valuable? Lk 16:9-15
Today’s Gospel is forceful for today’s societies, where social relations between countries and institutions, groups and even “friendships” are contaminated by interests of power and possession. The most serious: those that are disguised as altruistic values and mediated by negotiations for growth and congruent support. Jesus is radical in expressing that one cannot “serve two masters, God and money” because they are incompatible. And He refers to questioning the Pharisees, with the term “mammon”, that is, the money that gives security by “hoarding”. This term comes from Aramaic; it is mentioned about four times in the Gospels. What Jesus questions is how a person makes money his only point of support and his only goal. “The heart of the individual trapped by money hardens. He tends to seek his own interest, he does not think about the suffering and need of others” (Pagola).
In the face of the inducements of the materialized world, what is our relationship with money like?
