Lk. 11:5-13: “He who asks, receives; he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.”
After teaching us the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus speaks to us of the power of persevering prayer. The parable tells of a man who, in the middle of the night, goes to a friend’s house to ask for bread. Although at first it seems inopportune, insistence achieves everything.
God always hears the prayer of his children. Perseverance is not to convince God, as if He resists, but to strengthen our confidence and open our hearts. Insistent prayer does not change God, it changes us; it makes us more confident, more humble, more patient.
Perhaps more than once we feel that our prayers are not heard, but today Jesus invites us not to become tired of asking, of seeking, of calling. God always answers, though not always as we expect. His response is so much better because He gives us his Spirit, gives us peace, and gives us what we really need to live as his beloved children. How persevering are we in our prayer?
