April 10.  “Before Abraham was, I AM.” Jn. 8:51-59

For the Jews, feeling like children of Abraham was a kind of title of honor that gave them recognition and credibility; their faith in Abraham was the way of saying that they were sons of Isaac and Jacob, only God could be above Abraham; that is why when Jesus says that it existed before Abraham, He touches on something very sensitive for the faith of the Jews; they proudly proclaimed themselves children of Abraham. Jesus, on the other hand, invites them to discover that they are first and foremost children of God and that living according to that filiation is what leads them to discover their true identity as believers. We too know that we are children of God and therefore brothers and sisters in Jesus: what does this shared identity with Jesus and with all men and women mean today, at this moment in our lives? To what extent do we assume the consequences of that statement?
