Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket

Today’s gospel continues the theme of responding to the Word.  This portion focuses more on those who receive the light.  The challenge is to realize the light isn’t simply for us but rather the whole world.  We cannot cover it with a basket or hide it under a bed.  Our world can be scary, and it is tempting to share our light primarily with like-minded people. We are called, however, to put our lamp straight out into the world.  Jesus reminds us that as we measure out to others, so will it be measured to us.
