Tuesday, April 16, Acts 7:51-59, Jn.6:30-35

“Lord, give us always that bread”

It is very likely, as the evangelist insinuates, that the multiplication of the loaves attracted people to return to Jesus. Food brings us all together, especially those who are hungry… Jesus begins by conversing with them. He himself has taught them to ask God for daily bread for all. But human beings need something more. People sense that Jesus is opening up a new horizon for them. But they don’t know what to do or where to start. Accustomed to very clear signs like those of the Old Testament, they ask him for one, like manna: “bread from heaven”. Jesus then reveals to them that there is another bread that not only satisfies hunger, but “gives life to the world.”

Try to get into that dialogue of Jesus with people and listen to Jesus’ last sentence. They had said to him, “Give us always some of that bread.” As you think about our world, what do you want to say to it?
