“If I do not go, the Comforter will not come to you.” (Paraclete, Defender) Jn. 16:5-11

The announcement of his departure filled the hearts of the disciples with sadness. Jesus insists that another “gift” is coming, which will dispel sadness: his Spirit, the Defender, the Comforter. God’s commitment to his people is forever because He went to the extreme of becoming man and taking the way of the cross to save humanity. Now He gives us his own Spirit, so that He can guide, teach and strengthen us in this new way of living and relating to God. Today let us adore the Lord, who continues to believe and hope in us, always present to bring out the best in every human being, to help us live as children of the Father and as brothers and sisters, in that great family that is God’s dream.
