“Thou shalt love thy God with all thy heart. You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Mk. 12:28b-34.
In the dialogue with the scribe, Jesus goes to the heart of faith, from a clear and demanding synthesis: to love God with all one’s heart and to love one’s neighbor as oneself.
The love that Jesus proposes is not partial or superficial because it is a matter of loving God “with everything”, which implies that He is the center that unifies life, decisions and values. And that love is verified in the concrete: in the way we treat others, especially those who are closest to us. The scribe understands that this love is worth more than all the sacrifices. The Kingdom begins when faith is translated into lived love, not just words or rituals. Is love at the center of our faith? Is it noticeable in our daily gestures?
