God’s logic is that of gratuitous love. Mt. 20:1-16

Today’s Gospel is very revealing of what God is like. But to understand this, it is necessary to remember that, in the Bible, the vineyard is a symbol of the People of God. We cannot, therefore, interpret the text from the perspective of a trade union in the face of a clear injustice… but from a symbolic, spiritual perspective. God has always called everyone to work in his vineyard. But not everyone answers… responds… from the first hour, for so many human reasons. But for God, what counts is his entire and gratuitous love. In the narrative, the protest occurs because it is believed that the payment should be proportionate. But in the spiritual order, this does not count, there everything is free, from the invitation to work, to the payment for work. How difficult it is for us to understand and enter through the logic of God! Let us give thanks today, in silence, as if on our knees, for God’s gratuitous and unconditional love for us.
