Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
“When the voice had sounded, Jesus found himself alone.” Lk. 9:28-36
Today we are going to meditate on this passage with José María Castillo: “The singular and admirable thing about this story is that it makes clear something entirely extraordinary: the unthinkable singularity of Jesus. In the vision of the transfiguration, three great characters from the Bible appear: Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. But the story is worded in such a way that in the end, only Jesus remains. (..) For those three disciples educated in Judaism, Moses and Elijah represented the greatest of God’s revelation, the Law and, above all, Prophecy. That is why it is understandable that Peter asked to settle there. In this way Jesus harmonized with Moses and Elijah. (..) Well, this pretense of harmonizing the old with the new is what God from the voice of the cloud, disavows. God says, “Listen” to Jesus alone. He is the final Word in which God “spoke to us all together and at once,” (J. de la C.) Let us listen to Him and remain with Him alone, in prayer.
