A PRESENCE THAT TRANSFORMS LIVES IN VILLATINA

In the heart of the Villatina neighborhood, valuable social and educational work has been carried out aimed at accompanying vulnerable families in the sector. This mission, sustained with commitment, faith and service, seeks to provide opportunities for formation, human support and hope to children, young people and adults who face various economic and social difficulties.

Currently, community work is strengthened through three fundamental programs: training classes, the “Gospel and Life” space, health care, and the market program. Each of these projects responds to the specific needs of the community and has become a significant support for many families in the neighborhood.

The training classes offer practical and formative tools that allow people to acquire useful knowledge for their daily lives and personal growth. For its part, the “Gospel and Life” program has established itself as a space for meeting, reflection and spiritual strengthening, promoting human and Christian values that help build community and hope. In addition to this, there is the health care program, where medical appointments are available every two weeks, attended by a health professional, and the market program, through which food aid is provided to families in vulnerable situations, especially in times of economic difficulty.

This mission is possible thanks to the donations of Alumnae and their families; in addition to the generous dedication of three religious of the Company of Mary: Sisters Angela Sierra, M. Silvia Vallejo and María Cristina Palacio. These sisters are accompanied by two former students committed to social service: Ligia Álvarez and Luz María Mejía and three teachers from the same neighborhood: Edilia Jiménez, Martha Inés Agudelo and Liliana Salazar, who know closely the needs of the community and contribute their time, experience and dedication daily. Their close presence has made it possible to create bonds of trust and solidarity with many families in Villatina.

However, the path has not been without difficulties. One of the biggest challenges has been the changes in owners of the currently used home, a situation that has generated uncertainty and concern about the continuity of the programs. Each change implies new dialogues, adjustments, and efforts to ensure that the mission can move forward without affecting the beneficiary families.

Despite the difficulties, the work continues with hope and perseverance. The commitment of those who are part of this project shows that, even in the midst of challenges, it is possible to continue building spaces of welcome, education and solidarity that transform lives and strengthen the social fabric of the neighborhood.

The community of Villatina continues to be a witness to how working together, faith and service can become a true seed of hope for those who need it most.

We are convinced that God is present in this mission and is showing us, at every moment, the way to follow.

Our thanks to all the people who are part of this MISSION AND WORK.
