“How much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” Lk. 11:5-13
Jesus continues to insist on teaching us the mercy and great love that God has for us. He knows that it is so difficult for us to understand that gratuitous love. That is why He instructs us through the example of a friend who arrives late at night to ask for a favor. As if that example were not enough, because it might seem that only by insistence would our prayers be answered, He gives us another example, which perhaps can help us to understand the Father’s love a little better. Again, Jesus teaches us with questions that require internalized answers to reach the teaching He wants to transmit. The answer to our prayers is not because of the insistence with which we ask them, but rather because of the infinite gratuitousness of God who knows what we need before we have asked Him. May He continue to help us to believe, welcome, trust and discover on this day the signs of His love in our lives.
