“Only one thing is necessary.” Lk. 10:38-42
This account of Jesus’ visit to his friends Martha and Mary can speak in different ways to those of us who read and listen to it today. I think it is important to listen to Jesus today when He tells us that “only one thing is necessary”. It is the answer He gives to Martha after the complaint she has made to him when she saw that her sister stayed “at the feet of the Lord” listening to his word. It is important to listen to this phrase of Jesus, because in the society we live in, we have so many occupations that sometimes we feel that the day is not enough for all the duties we have, and we could easily identify with Martha busy and overwhelmed” with the many services”. He reminds us that only one thing is necessary and that it is in our hands to choose the part in which we want to spend our lives. Today, what do I find necessary?
