“By their perseverance they will save their lives.” Lk. 21: 5-19

On Jesus’ last visit to Jerusalem, some of those who accompanied him were amazed at the “beauty of the temple.” Jesus, on the other hand, felt something very different. His prophetic eyes saw the temple more deeply; in that great place the Kingdom of God is not being welcomed, which is why Jesus considers it finished: “What you contemplate will come a day when not one stone will be left upon another, everything will be destroyed.” Jesus weeps not for the temple, but for a city that does not open itself to the Kingdom of God. His tears are in solidarity with the suffering of his people, his radical criticism is for a religious system that hinders God’s visit. (Pagola). Surely today He weeps again for so much pain and death in the face of the injustice of powers far from him, who justify genocides, who undermine the lives of peoples.

What can we contribute from a Synodal Church to the cry of oppressed peoples?
