Lk. 12:13-21: “Beware of every kind of covetousness.”
Greed is a matter of the heart. “And what you have accumulated, whose will it be?”. The problem is not in having goods or in planning for the future, but in living with the heart trapped by the illusion of security in riches. The rich man only thinks about himself and that is why his monologue is full of his “I” and his “goods”, without opening himself to God or to others. His mistake is to believe that life is reduced to accumulating. True wealth is not in what we keep in barns or bank accounts, but in what we share in the love lived, in the trust placed in God. Let us not let the desire to possess rob us of our inner freedom.
The true meaning of life is not in accumulating, but in living in relationship with God and in solidarity with one’s brothers and sisters. We are called to cultivate generosity, gratitude, and solidarity.
