“When the Lord saw her, :He had compassion on her…” Lk. 7:11-17

Jesus’ attitude has much to teach us. In a world in which we live, by the accelerated way in which we are rushed to respond to different challenges each day, we can easily fall into self-centeredness. Jesus teaches us the value of compassion that arises from an attentive and contemplative look at life, at what happens to others, not just to me. Jesus becomes part of a situation of deep sadness; it is not possible for him to continue on the journey without first expressing a gesture of warmth with this widow who suffers for the loss of her only son. Today let us live with our eyes open, with our hearts awakened to look contemplatively at what is happening around us, so that we, too, can offer gestures of warmth toward those we meet and who need them.
