Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven? Mt.18,1-5.10.12-14

It is the disciples, the ones who ask Jesus. A question that reveals the aspirations, desires and perhaps disputes that would among them, as they discovered a Jesus who spoke of “another kingdom”… And Jesus takes a child to answer, but if we look closely, He does not speak of “the children” but of “the little ones”. Let us remember that, unlike now, in that society the child had no legal rights. Everything he received was a gift to him. In the same way, entering the kingdom of God is not acquired by one’s own strength; It is a gift that is received with the simplicity of a child. And what Jesus wants to make clear to the disciples goes further. “He who becomes small is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.” It is another way of saying, whoever wants to be the first should become the last, and the servant of all. We cannot become children, but we can make ourselves small, simple, grateful, without arrogance, available for service… Let us ask for that grace today with humility of heart.
