Fourth week of Easter
“He who has seen me has seen the Father” John 14:7-14:
Jesus’ exhortation to believe in God and in Him, which Saint John showed us yesterday, continues to be dealt with today with the deepening of the unity between Christ and the Father. Already in the prologue (chapter 1) Saint John told us that the eternal Son was with the Father, from all eternity; and from intimacy with the Father the eternal Word came down to us and became incarnate. Now Jesus exhorts us to recognize that the Father is in Him and He is in the Father, so in order to know and see God we must know and see Jesus. This exhortation is followed by the promises of the new covenant, which were already in Jeremiah and Ezekiel; The first promise is to do greater works and to hear our prayer.
In the face of this double promise of the Lord, I ask myself: What works like those of Jesus or greater than them have I done? Do I dialogue with the Father or with Jesus in prayer? What do I ask for in prayer?
