Third Week of Easter

“To whom shall we go to?” Jn. 6:60-69

Today’s gospel brings the final part of the Bread of Life Discourse. It is about the disciples’ discussion with each other and with Jesus, and Jesus’ conversation with Simon Peter. It shows us the demands of faith and the need for a firm commitment to Jesus and his proposal. The same thing can happen to us today. We are in a time when our Christian life must be lived in the open, against the current, proclaiming values that the world understands as counter-values. We can give in to the temptation to shelter this thought in our hearts: “This is very hard; who can carry this burden? Better to leave.” The decision to stay or leave will depend on whether we have strongly experienced his “bread of life” and his “words of eternal life.”

I put myself in Peter’s place before Jesus. What answer do I give to Jesus who asks me: “Do you also want to go?”
