Fourth week of Easter
“I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly.” Jn. 10:11
In today’s Gospel the words of Jesus resonate fully. He is the Shepherd, He is the one who calls us by our names and opens the door for us to enter the new meadows of his Kingdom, so that “we may have true life and have it in fullness”. But what happens today? On many occasions, we are fond of listening to different voices within us – many of them come from an individualistic, elitist, materialistic and voracious consumerist world – that lead us along a different path than the one the Lord offers us. Thus, we are tempted by a world of apparent happiness. The call, then, is not to close the door, and to listen to the voice of the Shepherd who wants the best for us, because he loves us and urges us to enter his door.
In the light of today’s Gospel, we can ask ourselves: What is our door? What voice do we follow when we hear so much noise in our society?
