Born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, United States, Robert Francis Prevost is an Augustinian priest with an outstanding career in Latin America, especially in Peru, where he served as a missionary and bishop of Chiclayo between 2015 and 2023.

In 2023, he was appointed prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, positions that gave him significant influence in the appointment of bishops worldwide.
