Tuesday 29     Luke 13:18-21

“The Kingdom of heaven is like a seed.”

Today the Gospel presents us with two parables that are very typical of Jesus’ way of teaching and reveal what He himself was discovering about the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom was like Jesus’ obsession, the raison d’être of the mission received from the Father. In his desire to help us understand what the Kingdom is, He presents it to us today as a very small seed, that of mustard, and as a little leaven capable of raising a good measure of flour. Two images of something very small, but with an unsuspected life force. Two elements that have to disappear to make way for the force they contain. This is what Jesus tells us is the Kingdom of God that He came to establish on earth, the one that is within us. Seen in this way, in the light of these parables, we can say that the Kingdom is the love that God has instilled in our hearts and that when we welcome it and allow it to work, it grows and changes us from within and manifests itself in a thousand ways. Do we believe in the power of love? Do we allow it to grow from within?
