“The Twelve and some women were with him.” (Luke 8:1-3)
Luke’s gospel not only highlights the role of women in the discipleship of Jesus, but also makes us see his clear opposition to the marginalization of women by the men who dominated (Jews, Greeks and Romans). Jesus breaks every rule of injustice, oppression, and marginalization. In this way, He dignifies women and gives them a leading role in his plan of evangelization, as God the Father also did, by giving women a privileged place in the plan of salvation. At the end of the text, the distinction between two groups of women who accompany Jesus is striking: those who had been freed from evil spirits and healed and many others who served him with their goods. Today too, He invites us to give and place all that we are and have at the service of the Kingdom.
