Today we meditate on the passage that tells us about Jesus’ encounter with the Roman centurion; a military commander who did not share the religious beliefs of the Jews; And yet a good man, sensitive to the suffering of his servant who is in bed paralyzed.
Jesus tells us of him: “I have not found so much faith in anyone.” What does it mean to tell us about what it means to have faith? In Jesus’ criteria lies the experience of a great humanity that takes us out of ourselves to put ourselves in the place of others and trust that God is always there, healing, saving. It is not a question of a “religious” relationship with the “transcendent”, but of an “experience of humanity”, of life, of health, of trust in Jesus.
Hence, Jesus’ insistent affirmation to the sick He healed: “Your faith has saved you.” It is faith that is on the side of those who suffer and those who are mistreated by life.
Can I say that I am a man or woman of faith?
