Through the parable that Jesus tells today, he invites us to ponder what our faithfulness and capacity for risk is like in our lives, with the talents we have freely received. In the parable, the king summons ten of his servants and gives each one a sum of money with the charge: “Negotiate this money until I return.” When we are told to negotiate, the first thought that comes to mind is how to take advantage, both for the owner of the capital and for the intermediary of the investment. The servants, according to their possibilities and capacity for risk, looked for a way to multiply the capital received, but one of them was so afraid of losing that he decided to keep it, without taking any kind of risk. Each of us has received some talent represented in the ability to know how to do something. The question that the story asks us is: What are we doing with our talents? Are we multiplying them and sharing them with others? Or…are they remaining static and useless?
